APIRANTHOS
Further away form Filoti is Apiranthos, a village with intense Venetian influence, with Virgin Mary the Apirathitissa and 3 important museums (archaelogical, folk and geological). Small traditional houses made of stone and narrow marble pathways with arches and beautiful squares with picturesque small kafeneia (coffee-shops in Greek) and tavernas. This village has unique customs and a rich folkloric tradition. The local dialect and traditions are similar to the mountainous Crete villages and it is said that Apiranthos was built by Cretans in the 10th century, while historical evidence in 1413 by the traveler Cristoforo Buondelmonti confirms its existence. Worth visiting at Apiranthos are the Venetian castles of Somaripa, Krispi and Sfortsa, the church of Agia Kyriaki outside the village and the picturesque chapel of Agios Pachoumios on Mount Fanari. A must in your Naxos adventure.
